Who We Are

Extinction Rebellion is an international apolitical network using non-violent direct action to persuade governments to act on the Climate and Ecological Emergency. We adhere to ten core principles and values:

  1. We have a shared vision of change.
Creating a world that is fit for the next 7 generations to live in.
  2. We set our mission on what is necessary.
Using ideas such as "Momentum-driven organizing" to mobilize 3.5% of the population and achieve system change.
  3. We need a regenerative culture.
Creating a culture which is healthy, resilient, and adaptable.
  4. We openly challenge ourselves and our toxic system.
Leaving our comfot zones to take action for change.
  5. We value reflecting and learning.
Following a cycle of action, reflection, learning, and planning for more action. Learning from other movements and contexts as well as our own experience.
  6. We welcome everyone and every part of everyone.
Working actively to create safer and more accessible spaces.
  7. We actively mitigate for power.
Breaking down hierarchies of power for more equitable participation.
  8. We avoid blaming and shaming.
We live in a toxic system, but no one individual is to blame.
  9. We are a non-violent network.
Using non-violent strategy and tactics as the most effective way to bring about change.
  10. We are based on autonomy and decentralization
We colectively create the structures we need to challenge power.

Our Demands

  1. A Just Transformation: Government must respond to the climate and ecological crisis with a just transformation that is actively decolonial, prioritizing the livelihoods of workers and the rights of those most oppressed by the present system, including our non-human relations.
  2. Tell the Truth: Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change.
  3. Act Now: Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025.
  4. Beyond Politics: Government must create and be led by the decisions of a randomly selected, deliberative assembly on climate and ecological justice.

Why We Rebel

Humanity finds itself embroiled in an event unprecedented in its history. One which, unless immediately addressed, will catapult us further into the destruction of all we hold dear: this land, its peoples, its ecosystems and the future of generations to come. The science is clear: we are in the sixth mass extinction event and we will face catastrophe if we do not act swiftly and robustly.
